Health Services Provider (R.N.)

Perform professional health services duties required in the school setting. Provide health education materials and information to students, staff, and parents/guardians. Update annual physical examination of students' vision, hearing, blood pressure, and vaccinations, per Virginia State guidelines. Provide direct nursing care to students and staff such as first-aid services, administering medication, emergency health care, and nursing care as prescribed by a medical provider; and in some cases accompany the child to the hospital or home. Supervise/observe students during administration of medication during school hours. Discuss individual physical problems with pupils, parents, and teachers. Serve as a resource person for the classroom on health care topics. Comply with FERPA/HIPAA laws and regulations. Ensure that OSHA standards concerning contact with, and possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within the school or employment setting are met. Maintain daily log of student visits to the clinic. Attend staff meetings and conferences as requested by their building administration. Participate in staff development as requested. Maintain up-to-date equipment and an adequately supplied clinic; requisition supplies and equipment as needed. Follow procedures for suspected child abuse and neglect. Supervise Health Services Paraprofessional as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by building administrator.
