Job Title: Technical Writer

Job Description

The Technical Writer is responsible for translating complex information into clear and concise documentation. This individual will create, review, and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, and manufacturing work instructions. A strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to manage tasks from intake to completion with minimal guidance is essential.

Responsibilities

• Work independently on assigned documentation and communicate statuses and obstacles.
• Interview subject matter experts and observe tasks or processes to determine procedures and details.
• Study submitted materials including BOMs, drawings, and pictures to inform documentation.
• Organize material and complete writing assignments according to internal standards.
• Proofread documentation for others and recommend improvements.
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, or content.
• Mentor less experienced team members as appropriate.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience.
• Experience in engineering, energy, or manufacturing preferred.
• Proficiency with CCMS or authoring tools, Microsoft suite, and Smartsheet.
• Prior experience interviewing and performing shop floor observation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in technical writing or technical communication preferred.
• Ability to pay attention to details.
• Experience in manufacturing or construction preferred.

Work Environment

This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday to Friday, with potential overtime. The role is primarily based in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from office equipment and occasional exposure to manufacturing noise. Work involves the operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods. Travel to various work sites may be required, depending on assignment. This is a Contract position based out of Ulen, IN.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Ulen,IN.
