Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Medicine Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: None required; previous clinical experience desired License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC required; certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred Must-Have: - Strong clinical skills and critical thinking abilities - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and healthcare teams - Ability to work under pressure and in high-stress situations - Knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols - Ability to handle a diverse patient population and varying levels of acuity Description: The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies. This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. They assess, delegate, coordinate, and evaluate the nursing care provided. They ensure provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to them. Essential Job Functions include: Conducting thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms. Prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended first. Administering medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Performing emergency procedures like wound care and splinting. Continuously monitoring patients' vital signs and response to treatments, adjusting interventions as needed. Working closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff. Accurately recording patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records or paper charts as required. Providing patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions. Responding to rapid response calls and code blue situations or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention. Ensuring that the patient's rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care. Following all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff. Participating in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggesting improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes. Supporting the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Floating to other departments where they are qualified to perform patient care before core staff is floated. They must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, as well as work with fingers. They perceive attributes of objects or materials such as size, shape, temperature, or texture. They must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. They should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing are required. They must be capable of working long shifts, often 12 hours, sometimes in high-stress demanding situations. They must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Working Conditions include an inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. They may be subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally, they may be subject to combative patients and variable noise levels. They will also be subject to a rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate 24/7.
