Description: This is an 8-week assignment. ICU nurse to patient ratios are 1:2. First-time travelers are accepted. Weekend requirements may vary and are flexible. The role requires interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, multi-system organ failure, and pre/post cardiac catheterization/intervention. Candidates will manage IV insulin protocols and care for patients with chronic or acute renal failure. They will also be responsible for arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and continuous IV sedation. Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, and management of BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilated patients are also required. Candidates must be skilled in interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs), suctioning, infection prevention, and isolation use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This unit primarily serves heavy medical ICU patients, including some surgical cases, with a focus on GI or carotid patients. The facility features a very active cath lab that admits patients into the ICU around the clock. Staffing includes interdisciplinary support teams such as IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and rapid response teams. Candidates are expected to float to medical/surgical, advanced acute unit, and progressive care unit units, where patient ratios may change to 1:4. Travelers are required to follow all facility policies and procedures, including compliance with floating requirements.
