Electric Lineman – Apprentice, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Crew Leader Salary Range Apprentice Lineman: $24.12–$36.18 per hour 2nd Class Lineman: $27.92–$41.89 per hour 1st Class Lineman: $29.32–$43.98 per hour Crew Leader Lineman: $30.79–$46.18 per hour Hours 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday (40 hours per week & standby duties). Responsibilities Apprentice Lineman Assist others in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system while de-energized. Operate various types of motorized equipment used in construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Assist in preparing hardware and materials for installation. Clean and restock trucks with appropriate materials, equipment and tools. Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe work zone. Perform other related duties as assigned. 2nd Class Lineman Participate in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of the overhead electric distribution system while energized at secondary voltages. Prepare associated hardware and materials. Participate in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of the underground electric distribution system while energized at secondary voltages. Operate various types of motorized equipment used in construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Crew Leader Lineman Participate in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of the overhead electric distribution system while energized at primary and secondary voltages. Prepare associated hardware and materials. Participate in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of the underground electric distribution system while energized at primary and secondary voltages. Operate various types of motorized equipment used in construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Assist in directing the daily operation of the electric line crew. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; completion of specialized training or apprenticeship in electrical line work is required for 2nd, 1st, and crew leader positions. Basic electrical knowledge and familiarity with electric line construction and maintenance practices. Knowledge of safety procedures, rules, and regulations including NESC, OSHA, APPA, and local city policies. Skill in operating motorized equipment and climbing utility poles. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Good problem‑solving ability and the ability to perform mathematical calculations. Valid North Carolina Class A driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 months). 3‑year verifiable driving history; if less than 3 but at least 2 years, completion of an 8‑hour court‑approved driving course is required. Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and be on a rotating standby schedule after normal hours. Must live within approximately 20 miles of the city’s 800 MHz radio system reception and transmission range. For Apprentice Lineman, must advance to 2nd Class within two years and to 1st Class within five years after becoming 2nd Class. For 2nd Class Lineman, must develop job knowledge and skills to be promoted to 1st Class within five years of hire; failure to do so may result in discharge. Physical Demands & Work Environment Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions; frequent lifting, climbing, and use of hand/ power tools. Work may involve extended periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. Exposure to noise, dust, and dirt; use of protective devices such as safety glasses, flame‑resistant clothing, and gloves is required. Must be able to operate equipment and work in confined spaces and extreme temperatures. #J-18808-Ljbffr
