Part-Time Associate Veterinarian

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Part-Time Associate Veterinarian who thrives in a fast‑paced environment to join our team at Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital in Grass Valley, California. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will report directly to the Regional Manager. Hospital Overview Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital has been providing families and their pets with the best possible veterinary care since 1956. We are a full‑service animal hospital offering wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, and overnight boarding for cats, among other services. Compensation and Benefits Overview Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000 (full‑time). Part‑time compensation prorated based on experience and hours. No negative accrual and no non‑compete clause. Supportive home hospital environment backed by national resources. Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups. Client communication and education. Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery. Maintain accurate medical records. Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols. Promote teamwork and staff efficiency. Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations. Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge. Monitor cases in the hospital and attend daily rounds when possible. Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels. Perform other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university. Current State Veterinary License. DEA registration, maintained. At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills. Excellent surgical and dental skills. Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care. Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff. Client communication skills, including rapport building and explanation of treatments. Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets. Capability to perform moderately physically demanding tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Demonstrated clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations. Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality hospital management. Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients. Professionalism and openness to constructive criticism.
