Legal Assistant - Niche Maritime Litigation Practice

The firm represents vessel owners, businesses, employers, and insurers, emphasizing responsive, high-quality service tailored to complex legal needs. Its attorneys are licensed to practice in State and Federal District Courts in Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Hawaii, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. This breadth of practice and jurisdiction offers team members exposure to international collaboration and specialized maritime litigation. Role Description You will support attorneys with case management, including preparing, formatting, and organizing pleadings and other legal documents, maintaining case files, managing calendars and deadlines, coordinating court filings and managing e-filing in the State and Federal courts, and assisting with client communications and correspondence. The role involves scheduling and tracking hearings, depositions, and meetings, as well as compiling exhibits and maintaining accurate records in firm document management systems. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Seattle, Washington, with a combination of in-office work and some work-from-home flexibility to support practice needs. Qualifications Strong foundation in law and familiarity with the civil litigation processes and experience with State and Federal court rules, procedures and e-filings in State and Federal court, state corporate filings, corporate minutes, and discovery; Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and filing pleadings, motions, discovery, and other court documents; Experience with NetDocuments is a plus; Effective communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with attorneys, clients, courts, and clients; Administrative assistance experience, such as calendar management, deadline tracking, file organization, data entry, and general office support; High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with law firm software, including Microsoft Office; Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions; Associate’s degree, paralegal or legal assistant certificate, or comparable experience in a law firm setting; maritime or insurance defense experience is a plus.
