Physics Professor for AI Model Training [Remote]

Bring senior physics judgment to a project that uses domain expertise to train next-generation AI systems. In this remote contractor role you will adjudicate competing physics arguments, identify where approximations break down, and produce rigorous, defensible written evaluations that shape how models learn and reason. No prior experience in AI is required, your physics expertise is the priority.

• Adjudicate contested or competing physics arguments, solutions, and interpretations within your subfield.
• Compare alternative approaches to the same problem, specifying which approach is preferable, under which assumptions, and in which parameter regimes.
• Identify and articulate meta-level evaluation criteria for robustness and validity, such as key assumptions and breaking points of approximations.
• Provide calibrated, authoritative assessments while clearly acknowledging genuine uncertainty or open questions in the field.
• Draft defensible written evaluations suitable for review by senior physicists, ensuring clarity and rigor.
• Use technical tools as needed to verify or contrast claims, for example LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter, and state when questions remain unresolved.

• PhD in physics, with demonstrated expertise and scholarly impact in your specified subfield.
• Current or former Associate Professor, Full Professor, Chair Professor, or Principal Investigator / Group Leader, with a track record of independent research leadership.
• Ongoing research activity in one or more of these areas: High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter, AMO / Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
• Provide 3 to 5 recent representative publications in your target subfield, with arXiv identifiers or DOI references.
• Prior experience supervising PhD students or postdocs, or equivalent leadership in industry research settings.
• Required skills and dispositions: deep physics mastery, expert judgment in ambiguous cases, meta-level reasoning, research leadership, and the ability to produce defensible written articulation of complex issues.
• Proficiency with LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter. If you have gaps with any of these tools, please indicate them when applying.
• Exceptional written communication skills, able to articulate nuanced and well-reasoned judgments for peer review.
