Plant Maintenance Mechanic

Overview Water Resources: An employee in this class performs journey level mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large and specialized equipment and machinery in a water treatment plant and distribution system. Work involves troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of pumps and motors, gearboxes, valves and other equipment in the water treatment plant and distribution system. The position requires knowledge of mechanical and plumbing trade skills with some knowledge of electrical and electronic repairs. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated in terms of effectiveness in returning equipment to proper operating conditions within given time schedules and overall system performance. Work may be performed during inclement weather. Responsibilities Perform journey level mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large and specialized equipment and machinery in water treatment plant and distribution system. Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a variety of pumps and motors, gearboxes, valves and other equipment in the water treatment plant and distribution system. Apply trade skills in mechanical and plumbing areas with some knowledge of electrical and electronic repairs. Work under regular supervision and be evaluated on effectiveness of returning equipment to proper operating conditions within specified time frames and on overall system performance. Note that work may be performed during inclement weather. Qualifications Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in mechanical or plumbing trades, and experience in water and sewer treatment and/or pumping station equipment maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. The applicant must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $40,947 - $61,421. Open until filled.
