Job Description Position Information TXDOT's Dallas County Area Office is looking for a Design Engineer to join the Dallas County design team in a project manager role. You’ll be responsible for designing, managing, and coordinating plan designs for construction projects involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of highways, bridges, and transportation infrastructure in Dallas County. Your daily workload will involve developing and overseeing assigned highway design projects, while coordinating action items with Dallas District design groups to complete construction plans. While working closely with co-workers within the Area Office design team, you will build and oversee entire projects from the initial scoping & design stage, all the way through the letting and bidding process! Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans. Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans. Develops and/or reviews environmental documents and prepares remediation plans. Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations. Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions. Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development. Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Performs pavement designs and makes recommendations. Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians. Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers. Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Additional Duties for Transportation Engineer II, III Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development. Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in report form. Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district. Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters. Responsible for the review of construction related to operations. Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Experience Transportation Engineer I 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Transportation Engineer II 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
