What will I do as the Assistant Director of Nursing-Staff Development & Infection Prevention?

To lead nursing staff development and infection prevention for the healthcare center in conjunction with the Director of Nursing, ensuring that team members are well-educated, competent, and consistent in delivering geriatric resident care that meets established federal/state government regulations/requirements and Luthercare standards. This role centers on building clinical capability, driving quality outcomes, and serving as the facility's Infection Preventionist. It is intentionally structured to be minimally involved in day-to-day staffing and scheduling so that its focus remains on education, competency, and infection control.

• Plans, develops, and executes onboarding, orientation, and ongoing in-service education for all nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, and CNAs) in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
• Plans, develops, and executes clinical competency evaluations for all nursing staff, maintaining accurate competency and training records and tracks completion of mandatory education.
• Educates nursing staff on nursing standards to ensure that operations fall within guidelines set forth by federal/state regulatory bodies and identifies and closes knowledge or skill gaps through targeted education.
• Develop and recommends standards of care, promulgate changes, and monitors compliance through rounds, periodic conferences with nursing staff, and report review.
• Serves as a clinical mentor and resource on the resident care units across all shifts, coaching staff at the point of care and reinforcing person-centered care.
• Provides flexibility in personal schedule to ensure the training and competency needs of the healthcare center are met in a timely fashion, including day, evening, night, and weekend education as needed.
• Functions as the primary contact and educator of staff in Infection Prevention practices and clinical
• Serves as the facility Infection Preventionist (a federally required role), including assessing, developing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the Infection Prevention and Control Plan with the assistance of Administrative staff and software.
• Maintains accurate reports of applicable infectious outbreaks and reports to appropriate agencies/governing bodies.
• Maintains accurate record of resident immunizations (including but not limited to Flu, COVID, RSV), administers vaccines as needed, and coordinates vaccine clinics with pharmacy.
• Initiates and monitors Enhanced Barrier Precautions for residents when applicable.
• Conducts weekly/periodic infection prevention and environmental audits, troubleshoots areas of concern proactively, and drives corrective action to protect residents and staff.
• Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) as required, with a focus on infection-related and clinical quality measures, and completes regulatory compliance reports as required.
• Manages assigned clinical programs (such as wound care/skin integrity) as directed by the Director of Nursing, focusing education and monitoring on the associated quality measures.
• Dedicates time to on-the-floor observation and routine rounds of the healthcare center to assess compliance with regulations and is pro-active in dealing with identified problem areas.
• In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, evaluates nursing staff performance related to competency and practice, and supports counseling/coaching when appropriate while maintaining pertinent documentation.

Assumes on-call responsibility on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications:

 

• Current PA Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Current Infection Prevention Certification
• Two (2) years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in long term care health services.
• Demonstrated experience in staff education, competency development, and/or infection prevention in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with residents and staff while fostering a warm, respectful, and therapeutic environment that promotes wellbeing and dignity.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal/state regulations governing nursing services, infection control, and medical record standards.
