Join our team and make a difference in the success of SawStop and the lives of thousands of users. PRIMARY FUNCTIONAs a member of the Hardware Team, you'll be responsible for exploring new product ideas, developing technology platforms, and supporting existing products. You'll identify technology opportunities, investigate solutions, collaborate with the design team, and validate production designs that deliver exceptional user experiences. You'll use engineering principles to translate marketing requirements into technical measures and collaborate with the test team to validate that product performance meets requirements.You will use validated simulations to increase the number of designs that can be explored, increase the likelihood proofs of concept meet requirements, and optimize concepts. Using both rapid prototyping and traditional fabrication techniques, you will create functional prototypes to evaluate new concepts. The position involves proactive, professional communication and a high degree of collaboration and coordination across functional groups and reporting structures. Regular supervision is not required, although regular reporting to multiple stakeholders and proactive communication is essential for this role. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSystems EngineeringCollaborate with Product Management to develop product requirementsLead the engineering team through the Systems V-model. In particular, translate requirements into technical measures, and validate the design with regards to the product requirementsMentor the engineering team in the decomposition of technical measures into specifications that drive part design and production standard operating proceduresTechnology DevelopmentResearch new concepts related to AIM technologyVerify engineering principles behind technologyCommunicate physics to othersDevelop technology platformsConcept DevelopmentApply technology to next generation woodworking tools and accessoriesOptimize Active Injury Mitigation technology to support future product roadmapDevelop proof of concept equipment to demonstrate technology concepts in potential productsAchieve technical maturity needed for inclusion in the product roadmapClearly and effectively communicate to internal and external team members and stakeholdersInfrequent international travel is required REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSCandidates must show a hands-on passion for their work and be able to communicate their ideas and concepts both verbally and visuallyBachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar8+ years of demonstrated experience in product designDemonstrated application of the systems V-model to product designDemonstrated creativity with the ability to quickly ideate and determine concept feasibilityAbility to develop and implement ideas to solve complex problems3D CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred)Statistical analysis software experienceAbility to effectively communicate and collaborate across functional groups and diverse audiences, while working in a dynamic team and project focused environmentHands on practical skills – ability to use basic shop tools, equipment, and measurement tools to build and test mockups and prototypesProven ability to take a product concept from concept to a realized systemProficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechatronics Engineering or similarExperience with simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, NASTRAN)Green belt in DFLSS or other statistical processing techniquesExperience designing for a variety of manufacturing processes and materials (e.g., injection molded plastic, sheet metal stamping, die cast aluminum, cast iron, and machining)Experience working with offshore manufacturing companiesExperience performing 3D CAD design simulation (e.g., Finite Element Analysis)Prototyping and machine tool operation experience (e.g., milling machine, lathe, drill press, welding) COMPANY PROFILESawStop is the world leader in power tool safety.Headquartered in Tualatin, Oregon we design, engineer, and manufacture innovative woodworking power tools and accessories for amateur and professional markets.
