Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Overview Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and operates across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. What you will do as a Nurse Practitioner The Nurse Practitioner provides client medical and/or psychiatric treatment services in consultation with and supervision from the supervising Medical Director/Psychiatrist, and/or other care providers to ensure client medical and/or psychiatric needs are met in accordance with the treatment plan and agency policies and procedures. Responsibilities Learn and utilize the organization’s systems, processes and procedures as instructed. Represent the organization internally and externally through communication and conduct. Display trauma-informed practices and principles in interactions with customers, peers, and leadership. Residential Client Admissions — assist in the diagnostic process by evaluating clients with focus on past medical and psychiatric history, current physical and psychiatric status, and the agency’s ability to provide medical and psychiatric needs while in placement. Provide and document appropriate residential medical care, including compiling medical history; conduct admission/annual physical examinations and manage acute and chronic illnesses; order for speech or occupational therapy as needed. Ensure immunizations are up to date and provide orders for vaccines when lapsed. Order and oversee processing of laboratory studies as medically indicated. Refer for off-campus healthcare as needed. Provide orders for restrictive interventions and assess consumers following restrictive interventions as per TCFF policy and procedures. Provide orders for self-harm watches as per TCFF policy and procedure. Collaborate with the Medical Director to coordinate MH/SA services with primary physical or psychiatric healthcare providers.
