Medical Assistant
Responsible for preparing patients for physician exam/treatment, assisting physician, performing tests and procedures provide patient education and maintenance of clinical area and coordination of all aspects of the front office. Provides patient care as ordered and exercises professional judgment in the performance of patient care procedures. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. Maintains patient confidentiality.
Job duties include preparing patients for physician exam, assessing patient acuity to prioritize order seen, obtaining height, weight, BP, pulse, respirations, temp and pulse ox if needed, obtaining brief history for visit; documenting notes in chart, answering any patient questions regarding policy, reviewing chart to assure all documents needed are attached, performing tests and procedures as ordered by physician, finger stick blood sugar, breathing treatment nebulizer, incentive spirometer, injections, specimen collection and documentation, dispensing of medications, venipuncture, assisting physician with exam or treatment, facilitating patient discharge, reviewing discharge instructions, providing educational material, and answering questions, ensuring appropriate charges are listed on fee slip and processing, collecting appropriate co-pay or payment for services provided, scheduling appropriate referral appointments and other outpatient testing and documenting appropriately, managing clinical data, accurate input and retrieval of all computer related tasks, reviewing and processing all test results received, maintaining patient records, scanning, attaching results for physician to review, following up calls with patient about results, maintaining clinical area, keeping exam rooms and nursing station clean and orderly, performing daily restocking of all room supplies, cleaning and sterilizing all equipment utilized, assuming responsibility for assigned area, providing input for equipment and supply purchase decisions, controlling inventory and purchase of supplies in coordination with manager, maintaining clinical logs, assisting with general office duties, assisting with answering telephones and questions, medical record compilation and filing, process electronic images onto CD for outside facilities, opening and closing office daily according to procedure, performing other duties commensurate with skills and training as assigned, including on-site assignments, flexible work hours to meet the needs of organization, protecting the assets of the organization, promoting positive facility and community relationships, responsible for checking emails and online learning assignments on a regular basis.

Age appropriate care includes being instructed in providing customer service and on interacting with age groups as related to the department’s general client population: including use of appropriate interventions, communication and skills to match the age and/or abilities of the patient/family.
Equipment used includes office equipment (copy machine, fax machine, telephone), Aprima, computer software EKG, AED, sterilizer, BP cuffs, otoscope/ophthalmoscope, nebulizer, glucose monitor, other medical equipment as appropriate.
Education, training, and experience include graduate of accredited medical assistant program, or equivalent training. Certified or registered medical assistant required within 90 days and maintain certification. CPR certified or must obtain within 3 months acquired through American Heart Association. Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required. Prior medical experience preferred.
Skills required include medical terminology, excellent organizational skills, experience with computer technology, focus on detail and self motivated with ability to work with little supervision, excellent customer service skills.
Physical requirements include normal space, ventilation, and noise levels, must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, must be able to get up and down out of chair frequently throughout the shift, must be able to lift 40 lbs., must be able to verbalize well and possess manual dexterity to write legibly.
