Position Overview

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is seeking a senior-level QA Associate / Analyst 3 to support enterprise-level application testing initiatives.

This role is primarily manual QA-focused and will involve testing complex, web-based applications across multiple systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in functional testing, data validation, integration testing, and defect management , along with the ability to work in a structured, process-driven government environment.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring software quality across mission-critical systems supporting DFPS programs and services.

Work Environment

• Primarily telework , with onsite requirements in Austin, TX
• Must attend first-day onboarding in person and occasional onsite meetings
• Possible after-hours work during testing cycles or production releases

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, and maintain detailed manual test cases and test scenarios
• Perform integration, system, regression, UI, batch, and web service testing
• Validate business workflows against functional and technical requirements
• Review requirements to ensure complete test coverage
• Identify, document, track, and retest defects using ALM and/or JIRA
• Perform backend data validation using SQL / PL/SQL
• Support data conversion and migration testing efforts
• Test across web applications, databases, APIs, and interfaces
• Collaborate with developers, QA Leads, Business Analysts, and stakeholders
• Assist with test planning, execution tracking, and issue escalation
• Conduct browser compatibility and accessibility testing when applicable
• Participate in release validation and production support testing
• Maintain QA documentation including test cases, results, and defect reports

Required Qualifications

Core QA Experience

• 8+ years of enterprise QA/testing experience
• 8+ years testing web-based applications , including:
  • UI/frontend testing
  • Backend/database validation
  • Batch processing
  • Web service/API testing
• Strong experience in manual testing within complex systems
• Proven expertise in writing test scenarios, test plans, and detailed test cases

QA Tools

• 5+ years experience using ALM and/or JIRA
• Strong experience managing the full defect lifecycle

Database & Data Validation

• 5+ years experience with SQL and PL/SQL
• Strong ability to validate backend data and ensure data integrity
• Experience creating and validating test datasets

Integration & Conversion Testing

• Experience testing system integrations and interfaces
• Hands-on experience with data conversion and migration validation
• Experience validating batch jobs and backend workflows

Communication & Collaboration

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with:
  • Developers
  • QA Leads
  • Business Analysts
  • Business stakeholders and users
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Tools & Productivity

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with browser testing tools
• Familiarity with SharePoint environments
• Experience testing Salesforce applications
• Exposure to test automation tools (Selenium, LoadRunner)
• Experience with accessibility testing tools (JAWS, WAVE, CCA)
• Knowledge of ADA / WCAG / Section 508 compliance standards
• Experience in state government, public sector, or regulated environments

Additional Requirements

• Must reside in Texas or be willing to relocate
• Must attend in-person onboarding in Austin
