Fitness Specialist

PRIMARY FUNCTION The Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and support to members and guests of Bayou Bend Fitness Center. This position promotes a safe, welcoming, and engaging fitness environment through member interaction, exercise guidance, facility oversight, and support of wellness programming. The Fitness Specialist serves as a visible resource on the fitness floor and contributes to the mission and goals of Bayou Bend Fitness Center and Bayou Bend Health System. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide outstanding customer service by greeting, assisting, and engaging members and guests throughout the facility. Maintain an active presence on the fitness floor to promote member safety, exercise adherence, and positive member experiences. Assist members with proper equipment use, exercise techniques, and general fitness questions within the scope of practice. Support new member orientations, fitness assessments, Wellness Quest appointments, and other fitness services as assigned. Monitor fitness areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, safety, and compliance with facility policies. Assist with equipment upkeep by identifying and reporting maintenance or safety concerns. Promote fitness center programs, services, wellness initiatives, and special events. Participate in member engagement activities, wellness programs, and facility-wide events. Maintain knowledge of current fitness industry standards, exercise guidelines, and facility offerings. Perform other duties as assigned. JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Associate or bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field preferred. Nationally recognized fitness certification preferred (ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or equivalent). Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Knowledge of exercise science principles, equipment operation, and safe exercise techniques. Ability to demonstrate proper exercise form and equipment use. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Dependable, professional, and team oriented. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and fitness-related software systems preferred.
