Nutritionist II (Lead Dietitian) – Public Health–Seattle & King County is seeking a professional to provide leadership and services at our Auburn Public Health Center with the Southeast King County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) team. This position will lead Nutrition Assistants and Registered Dietitians, collaborate with the Auburn Public Health leadership team, and serve pregnant individuals, new and breastfeeding parents, and children under age five. Term‑Limited Temporary (TLT) position. The role is at‑will, eligible for benefits, and currently anticipated to last 12 months. Funding sources may change, which could affect the end date. The position may also be filled as a Special Duty opportunity for qualified King County employees. Responsibilities Conduct individual sessions to assess clients’ nutritional needs using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary information for WIC and MNT programs; implement and document care plans as necessary. Assess the evolving needs of medically complex and high‑risk clients, primarily pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children. Accurately obtain and document anthropometric measurements for infants, children, and adults. Provide health‑care education with multidisciplinary team members regarding nutrition and related topics. Deliver breastfeeding education and support to pregnant women and new mothers. Use clinic practice‑management software (Cascades) and data systems regularly. Review, monitor, and schedule staff work for the WIC program; solve day‑to‑day operational issues as assigned by the site supervisor. Assist in hiring, performance evaluation, day‑to‑day coaching, and on‑the‑job training for new employees and WIC staff; ensure WIC competency requirements are met. Collaborate with supervisors and program staff to coordinate quality‑assurance activities and maintain compliance with set standards. Oversee collection and analysis of site‑specific data to identify at‑risk populations and participate in research to improve health‑care delivery. Coordinate care with team members and other health‑care providers; make referrals to appropriate services and document case management. Work with supervisors to ensure team workflows meet WIC standards and implement workflow changes as needed. Facilitate community outreach related to the WIC program and its services. Develop and present educational information to clients individually, in classes, or to community groups on nutrition and food‑related topics. Collaborate with the community to assess and address health issues, including program development. Develop and implement nutrition standards for targeted populations such as prenatal and high‑risk patients. Provide technical assistance and nutrition consultation; deliver in‑service training for staff. Precept nutrition interns from various educational institutions. Prepare and facilitate monthly WIC team meetings. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science, or Master of Public Health in Nutrition. Current Registered Dietitian (RD) registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or ability to attain registration by hire date. Washington State Certified Dietitian (CD) or ability to obtain within 30 days. A National Provider Identifier (NPI) obtained within 30 days of employment. Completion of department credentialing process and maintenance of credentials throughout employment. Current BLS/CPR certification with AED training at time of offer (CPR/AED Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement). Ability to obtain Washington State Medical Assistant‑Registered or Phlebotomist license within 30 days of hire for hemoglobin/hematocrit testing on WIC participants. Demonstrated experience advancing equity and social‑justice principles and practices addressing place, race, policy, and systemic inequities. Experience providing WIC services. Desired Qualifications At least two years of WIC leadership experience. Familiarity with WIC Electronic Charting System (Cascades). Bilingual in English and Spanish, or another language besides English. Established skills in quality‑improvement processes in a large public‑health organization. Advanced leadership, group process, and facilitation skills. Experience coordinating breastfeeding promotion and support activities. Experience with program monitoring and audits. Experience developing and modifying electronic charting and documentation systems for nutrition services. Advanced Excel, Office 365, and Microsoft Teams skills. Experience training other staff on nutrition services and principles. Knowledge of local health and social service resources and ability to build partnerships. Work Schedule Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. The schedule may vary with business need and occasionally include Saturdays. This is a non‑exempt position subject to overtime eligibility. Work Location Auburn Public Health Center, 901 Auburn Way N, Auburn, WA 98002. Coverage may be required at Birch Creek, Enumclaw, Health Point‑Auburn, Health Point‑Kent, and Muckleshoot WIC sites. Position is in‑person five days a week. Employees must reside in Washington State and within reasonable distance to King County sites.
