Job Overview MO-SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technician to work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Job Summary Responsible for the provision of patient care activities and related non‑professional services necessary for the care of patients and the maintenance of the Operating Room under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Sets up the Operating Room with needed items for patient care; gathers supplies, x‑rays, instruments, etc., for cases; handles instruments during procedures. Communicates information to the RN regarding patients. Responsibilities Practice and implement technical components of patient care under RN supervision. Collaborate with the RN and other healthcare professionals to implement a plan of care that incorporates physician preferences, nursing assessments, and diagnostic data. Prepare equipment, supplies and resources based on an individualized plan of care. Re‑evaluate and modify resource needs as needed. Communicate accurate and timely information to the RN regarding patients. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required for a variety of surgical procedures. Maintain knowledge and skills to operate all surgical equipment and instruments. Use appropriate aseptic technique when handling supplies, instruments and equipment. Follow laboratory policy and procedure to correctly handle and label all laboratory specimens. Document quality controls thoroughly and accurately per unit‑specific standards. Demonstrate competence in problem solving, conflict resolution, and team building. Serve as a resource to other team members. Organize and utilize time efficiently and prioritize tasks appropriately. Maintain an organized work environment and remain in a constant state of alertness and safety. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience, or graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing. Either prior operating room experience or graduation from an approved surgical technician program, or graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing. Physical Requirements Constant use of vision, hearing, lifting up to 25 lbs., standing, walking, frequent lifting 25‑50 lbs., patient movement, bending, reaching, clear vision at 20 inches or less, speech communication, occasional lifting >50 lbs., keyboard use, rare kneeling. Certifications State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin. Required Professional License and/or Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
