Neighborhood Liaison

The Neighborhood Liaison reports to a Deputy Director in the Office of Neighborhood Services and is the principal representative of the Mayor in their assigned neighborhood. The Neighborhood Liaison's primary responsibilities are: (1) performing excellent constituent services, (2) building strong relationships with key neighborhood leaders, (3) detecting and elevating key areas of growing concerns in their assigned neighborhood, (4) conducting community engagement on key Mayoral initiatives, and (5) supporting constituents during periodic emergency responses (i.e. fires, water breaks, etc.).

Responsibilities:

• Respond to every constituent inquiry in a respectful and timely manner and work with the appropriate department to resolve inquiries when possible.
• Represent the Mayor in public settings and communicate the Mayor's stance on critical issues in the community.
• Regularly attend meetings and/or events hosted by local community organizations or leaders to understand the pulse of the neighborhood you represent.
• Detect any brewing issues of concern in your assigned neighborhood, elevate them to the Mayor's Office and any relevant departments, and work with them to address the issue before it becomes a major concern.
• Organize and host community meetings around core mayoral initiatives and gather feedback on neighborhood issues.
• Conduct periodic listening sessions/focus groups with residents in your assigned neighborhood.
• Until these responsibilities are transitioned, facilitate public processes, including but not limited to: zoning appeals, licensing, and cannabis proposals.
• Identify, build, and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and/or those who have the potential to become community leaders in your neighborhood.
• Support the Office of Scheduling and Advance to ensure appropriate staffing, event promotion, and briefing.
• Connect constituents with state partners and community stakeholder organizations.
• Support the Mayor's Office in executing programming and initiatives on the neighborhood level.
• Respond to emergencies such as fires, gas leaks, and family displacement. Connect affected constituents with appropriate resources.
• Support a variety of Public Health emergencies and/or initiatives as required.
• Work closely with other City of Boston Departments, ISD, Public Works, Special Event, Elderly Commission, Transportation, etc., to coordinate events.
• May perform dual roles of representing and serving a neighborhood and citywide cultural constituency.
• May advise the policy team and/or relevant departments on issues related to the assigned neighborhood.
• Perform related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

• At least two (2) years of college, or equivalent, full-time and part-time experience in office administration, office management, business management, or related field.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and personnel in other departments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships quickly.

Boston Residency Required
