Physical Therapy Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Physical Therapy Manager for a 26-week travel assignment in Bethel, Alaska.

This role is ideal for a licensed Physical Therapist with a strong clinical background who is ready to combine direct patient care with department leadership and operational responsibilities.

The Physical Therapy Manager will help oversee rehabilitation services, support clinical staff, coordinate patient-care activities, maintain quality standards, and ensure efficient day-to-day operations. Candidates should have at least 4 years of full-time direct patient-care experience , an active Alaska Physical Therapist license, and strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Previous management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide leadership and operational oversight for Physical Therapy services.

· Support daily scheduling, staffing, workflow, and patient-care coordination.

· Supervise and support Physical Therapists and other rehabilitation staff as assigned.

· Maintain high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and professional practice.

· Provide direct Physical Therapy services when required.

· Evaluate patients and develop individualized treatment plans.

· Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical needs.

· Support staff orientation, mentoring, education, and competency development.

· Assist with performance management and staff development.

· Promote collaboration between rehabilitation, nursing, physicians, case management, and other departments.

· Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning.

· Monitor departmental productivity, quality, and service performance.

· Assist with development and implementation of policies, procedures, and clinical workflows.

· Maintain compliance with applicable licensure, regulatory, and organizational requirements.

· Ensure appropriate documentation and professional communication.

· Support department equipment and supply needs.

· Identify operational issues and develop practical solutions.

· Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards at all times.

· Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, leadership, and community partners.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Physical Therapy from an accredited program

· Active Physical Therapist license in good standing in the State of Alaska

· Minimum 4 years of active, full-time patient-care experience

· Current BLS certification

· Strong clinical Physical Therapy experience

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex clinical or administrative situations

· Strong written communication and documentation skills

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively

· Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates may also have:

· Previous Physical Therapy Manager experience

· Rehabilitation department leadership experience

· Previous supervisory or team-lead experience

· Acute-care Physical Therapy experience

· Rural healthcare experience

· Experience managing multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams

· Previous travel or interim management experience

· Experience with quality improvement and departmental performance initiatives

Clinical Skills

Candidates should have strong knowledge of:

· Physical Therapy assessment

· Gait training

· Balance training

· Transfer training

· Strength and range-of-motion assessment

· Rehabilitation modalities

· Patient education

· Discharge planning

· Assistive devices

· Postoperative rehabilitation

· Acute-care rehabilitation

Successful candidates should be comfortable with:

Candidates should be able to:

· Use standard computer and office applications effectively

· Create and edit professional correspondence

· Use Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets, basic formulas, and graphs

· Develop professional presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint

· Review and manage computerized clinical documentation

· Interpret operational data and basic performance metrics

Communication Requirements

The Physical Therapy Manager must be able to:

· Read and understand complex clinical and administrative instructions

· Communicate clearly in writing and verbally

· Present information effectively to individuals and groups

· Communicate professionally with patients, staff, leadership, and community members

· Work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and language backgrounds

Work Environment

This role may involve both hospital-based and remote or village-based rehabilitation services.

Hospital-based Physical Therapy environments may include:

· Hi-lo treatment tables

· Therapeutic exercise equipment

· Ultrasound equipment

· Electrical stimulation modalities

· Standard rehabilitation equipment

Some assignments may involve providing rehabilitation services in smaller community or village settings where equipment availability is more limited.

Travel to remote locations may occur based on organizational needs and could involve transportation on small aircraft.

Schedule Requirements

· Day Shift

· Five 8-hour shifts per week

· 40 hours per week

· Exact shift times may vary based on department and operational needs.

· Additional flexibility may be required for management responsibilities or patient-care needs.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Physical Therapist with strong leadership ability who can balance clinical responsibilities with staff supervision and department operations.

You should be comfortable making independent decisions, solving complex operational problems, supporting staff, communicating with leadership, and maintaining high standards of rehabilitation care.
