AI Engineer (LLM Applications)

Employment type: Contract, 12 months to start, with strong opportunity to extend

Pay rate: $65-$75/hour, depending on experience

Location: Indianapolis, IN preferred. Hybrid or remote may be considered for the right candidate

About the Opportunity

Brooksource Technology Services is hiring an AI Engineer to support an Integrated Risk Analytics team at a leading pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis, IN. You'll join a small, high-performing group of analytics and technology professionals building a modern web application that helps the team track and manage risk, document ownership, and stakeholder relationships across the business. This is a pilot with real room to grow: if it succeeds, the solution will scale to a much larger audience.

In this role you'll build the AI features of the application using enterprise-hosted large language models, including a chat experience over program insights and an MCP server that exposes data to LLM clients. This is an applied role: model training, fine-tuning, and MLOps are out of scope.

What You'll Do

• Build LLM-powered workflows embedded directly in the application.
\n
• Design and build a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipeline over program insights.
\n
• Build an MCP server that exposes data and insights to LLM clients.
\n
• Deliver role-based chat so users only see answers scoped to their access.
\n
• Build the APIs that support these AI features.
\n
• Own prompt and workflow engineering, including evaluation and quality testing of outputs.
\n
• Collaborate with a full-stack engineer, data engineers, and analytics architect.
\n

What You'll Bring

\n
• Significant hands-on experience building LLM applications in production.
\n
• Experience building RAG systems, including chunking, embeddings, retrieval, and vector stores.
\n
• Strong prompt engineering and LLM workflow design skills.
\n
• Experience evaluating LLM output quality.
\n
• Backend API development experience (MCP experience a plus).
\n
• Comfortable with Git, Docker, and AWS.
\n
• Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or similar.
\n

Nice to Have

\n
• Experience building MCP servers.
\n
• Experience implementing role-based access in AI or chat features.
\n
• Agentic workflow experience.
\n
• Familiarity with React or full-stack development.
\n
• Regulated industry experience.
\n
