Posting Details Position Information Position Title Accountant Job Description The Office of Accounting Services at Missouri Western StateUniversity (MoWest) is seeking applications for the position of Accountant as MoWest looks to improve its business processesfor its new strategic plan. The Accountant will beresponsible for the management and reporting of financialinformation. Their duties include preparing financial statements,performing bookkeeping, examining and analyzing the University’saccounts, and ensuring compliance with GASB financial reporting andgenerally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ). Accounting Services is part of the Finance and Administrationdivision of MoWest and works closely with the office(s) of Budget,Purchasing, and Student Financial Services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assigned a primary responsibility for one or more of thefollowing activities: bank deposits, accounts payable, accountsreceivable, fixed assets, leases, grants and federal funds, and/ordebt management. Prepare and examine financial records, ensuring records areaccurate and complete. Perform day-to-day transactions while ensuring establishedpolicies and procedures are followed. Posting financial transactions, including receivables andpayables, using appropriate software. Reconcile accounts to appropriate ledgers and statements;report and correct discrepancies. Prepare third party billings and track payments foraccuracy. Regular reconciliation of asset and liability accounts. Produce analysis for internal and external auditactivities. Perform allocations and journal entries. Filing and remitting taxes and other reportingobligations. Assists other departments with overall inquiries regardingrevenues and expenditures. Produce reports with accuracy and completeness. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Knowledge of and ability to adhere to GAAP . Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and similarsoftware. Communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers,supervisors, the general public, etc., is sufficient to exchange orconvey information and to receive work direction. Required Qualifications Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or relateddiscipline One (1) year of accounting experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relateddiscipline 2-3 years of accounting experience Fund or management accounting experience Physical Demands Sedentary Work Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or anegligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry,push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
