Host Systems Engineer

Salary: $102,000 - 125,000 per year Requirements:

• We prefer a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or an equivalent blend of education, certifications, and relevant hands-on experience.
• We prefer 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise server environments in systems administration, infrastructure operations, or a related IT function.
• We prefer exposure to enterprise platforms such as IBM Power or HPE NonStop systems, though this is not mandatory.
• We value experience working with UNIX/Linux operating systems; familiarity with AIX or Guardian OS is an advantage.
• We look for exposure to, or general familiarity with, InterSystems Caché or IRIS databases.
• We expect a foundational understanding of backup, recovery, monitoring, and availability concepts in enterprise or production settings.
• We prefer experience using ticketing and incident management systems to support infrastructure operations and service requests.
• We value a basic understanding of system security principles, access controls, and operational best practices in regulated environments.
• You should be able to troubleshoot and resolve common infrastructure issues by following documented procedures and escalating complex problems appropriately.
• We look for a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new platforms, tools, and processes in a mission-critical, high-availability environment.
• We require effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering teams, operations staff, and business stakeholders.

• We assist with the administration and day-to-day operational support of Guardian operating systems on HPE NonStop platforms under the guidance of a Host Systems Engineer II.
• We assist with the administration and maintenance of AIX operating systems on IBM Power Systems, including basic system checks, monitoring, and routine operational work.
• We support InterSystems Caché and IRIS environments by completing basic operational tasks, monitoring system status, and escalating issues when needed.
• We respond to system alerts and incidents by performing initial troubleshooting and following documented procedures, escalating complex issues to senior staff when required.
• We monitor system performance, availability, and security events using established monitoring tools.
• We participate in scheduled maintenance activities, including patching and updates, in line with documented change procedures.
• We log, track, update, and resolve service requests and incidents in the enterprise ticketing system while meeting SLA expectations.
• We follow established system configurations, standards, and architectural guidelines, and help update documentation as directed.
• We contribute to technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• We assist with infrastructure projects and initiatives by carrying out assigned tasks, testing, documentation, and validation activities.
• We coordinate with internal teams and vendors as directed to support daily operations and project work.
• We maintain awareness of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements at a foundational level.
• We participate in an on-call rotation with guidance and support from senior engineering staff.
• We perform other job-related duties as assigned.
