Job Description:

Title: RISE Scholars Educational Coach

Unit: Part-Time MCCC Professional Staff, 18.5 hours per week


Department: Student Support Services

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

Date: April 1, 2026 (Re post June 15, 2026)

General Summary: The Educational Coach is a ten-month role (August to June) appointed on an annual basis, every July 1st. Educational Coaches play a vital role in supporting RISE Scholars students in their academic, social, and emotional growth. Educational coaches work directly with students, promoting student independence, fostering success inside and outside the classroom, and helping students navigate college life while building essential life skills. Educational Coaches also contribute to cultivating an inclusive, supportive campus community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Academic Support & Life Skills Development:

• Support students in developing key academic and executive function skills, including schedule and time management; email and college system navigation; effective communication in academic and professional contexts; notetaking and study strategies; understanding syllabi, accommodations, and the Student-Ed Coach Agreement
• Connecting students with campus resources such as Student Access and Support Services, tutoring center, library, technology center, and other relevant academic or support services
• Help students engage in campus life, manage free time productively, and respond appropriately to campus emergencies.

Employment Support:

• Support students in their on-campus or community work placements. Supports include: communicating with supervisors and coworkers; understanding job responsibilities; navigating accommodations; emotional regulation in workplace settings
• Model & Reinforce workplace norms and expectations

Social Engagement & Professional Boundaries:

• Promote inclusion by encouraging student participation in campus activities, clubs, and events.
• Accompany students to classes and campus activities as needed to ensure safety, engagement, and appropriate support.
• Build professional, supportive relationships with students, faculty, and staff connected to the program.
• Maintain clear professional boundaries while helping students understand their strengths and areas for growth.
• Provide verbal and written feedback on student observations to aid in evaluation and growth.
• Complete program data collection forms to monitor student progress, including attendance records.
• Collaborate with students and program staff in weekly check-in meetings to ensure coordinated support.

• Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs, concerns, and individual issues while strictly adhering to confidentiality guidelines set by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Uphold program expectations and institutional standards in all interactions.

Other Duties:

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Basic proficiency in utilizing educational technology and software, including Blackboard.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to assistive technologies used by students with disabilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive relationships with students.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to provide support to students with diverse needs.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty members, Student Access and Support Services professionals, and other college support staff.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Master's degree in Education, Child Development, Special Education, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant work experience in an educational setting, specifically with individuals with disabilities.
• Participation in relevant professional development workshops or training programs.
• Additional coursework or certifications related to special education.
• Knowledge of academic accommodations at the college level.
• Proficiency in using specialized assistive technologies.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $36.55 per hour in accordance with MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement

Location: Bedford campus with travel to Lowell as needed depending on student schedule.

Hours: 18.5 per week for a duration of ten months (August 24-June 12) requiring annual contract renewal. Schedule to be determined upon hire. This is a grant-funded position and annual renewal is contingent on ongoing grant funding.
