Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory TherapistProvides quality respiratory care utilizing knowledge, professional judgement and standard principles in cardiopulmonary to promote and maintain health for patients of all ages in accordance with physician orders.Functions and Duties:Assists patient to accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants; operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators.Evaluates effectiveness of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, documenting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications to the plan.Documents patient care services by charting in electronic medical record and other department systems.Performs diagnostic procedures including arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function tests, 6 minute walks, etc.Ensures safe operation of equipment, clean and safe working environment, and adheres to infection control policies.Collaborates with physicians, nursing and other members of the health care team.Teach patients how to use treatments.Performs all other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:EducationGraduate of an approved AMA program required.Experience1 year of experience is preferred.Certifications, Licenses, and RegistrationsCurrent Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care required.Current Illinois State license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist required.Current Basic Life Support required.Skills and AbilitiesAbility to prioritize duties for timely completion of routine, scheduled and stat procedures.Ability to work within the critical care team.Physical Demands:Standing - Job requires standing for extended periods of time.Sitting - Job requires sitting for extended periods of time.Walking - Job requires employee to walk considerable distances, to and from work area.Lifting - Job requires employee to raise or lower up to 25 lbs. from one level to another.Pulling/Pushing - Job requires exerting force up to 50 lbs. to move an object to or away from employee.Grasping/Reaching - Job requires the employee to grasp/pick up items and reach for objects.Sight - Job requires normal vision, with or without correction.Hearing - Job requires normal hearing, with or without correction.Speaking - Job requires involves speaking and talking.Keyboarding - Job requires use of computerWork Indoors - YesBloodbourne pathogens YesVariable: Evenings/Nights
