Forensic Nurse Examiner Emergency Department

Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients in the Emergency Department. The RN utilizes technology, therapeutic intervention, and evidence‑based practice to coordinate care with other health team members. Position Details Shift: Night (Full time, 36 hours/week) Location: Platte Valley Hospital, Brighton, Colorado Department: Emergency Department Benefits Eligible: Yes Salary: $37.17 – $56.17 per hour (dependent on experience) Essential Functions Assess Performs appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as appropriate. Seeks and evaluates information from interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, physicians, and support staff. Plan Uses assessment information and critical thinking to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care, involving patients, families, and the care team. Prepares patients for further support needs after current episode of care outcomes are met, including education, referrals, and follow‑up. Implement Directs the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration. Provides or delegates care consistent with the plan of care, guidelines, and professional licensure provisions. Demonstrates priority setting and efficient management of time, supplies, and resources. Evaluate Evaluates patient response to interventions by reviewing achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, and satisfaction of patients and families. Revises the plan of care as needed and reassesses changes. Professionalism Promotes nursing profession and participates in development of others. Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice, complies with regulatory standards, practices within scope of licensure, provides accurate and timely documentation, and understands legal implications of care delivery. Valid compact license transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years for RNs with less than 12 months of experience. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Preferred Qualifications BSN degree earned from an accredited institution. One year of licensed RN experience in an Emergency Department. Previous forensic nursing/SANE experience preferred. Physical Requirements The role requires ongoing ability to see and read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies. Frequent verbal communication is required. Manual dexterity is needed for manipulating complex equipment, typing, and medication preparation. Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients, handle supplies up to heavy items, navigate crowded rooms, and stand for extended periods is necessary.
