Maintenance Technician I - HVACR

Pay Grade: 9 Period of Employment: 12 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Maintenance Foreman and/or Supervisor of Maintenance

General Responsibilities : Maintain HVACR systems and devices in working order throughout the school system; install, repair equipment/systems and devices.

Essential Duties:

• Advises supervisors of safety violations.
• Maintains, services, troubleshoots, and repairs heating ventilation and air conditioning systems and related equipment.
• Installs or repairs refrigeration equipment.
• Responds to emergency duty assignments on both a daily and on-call basis.
• Repairs other equipment as needed such as custodial, foodservice, and shop equipment.
• Moves equipment between school system facilities.
• Assists in snow removal.
• Reports problems with assigned vehicles; maintains vehicle cleanliness as well as oil, gas, and coolant levels.
• Completes work orders and various reports recording both time and material required.
• Performs work in a timely manner.
• Assumes responsibility for assigned tools.
• Performs preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment, such as inspecting, cleaning, oiling, greasing, calibrating, and changing air filters and drive belts.
• Assists throughout maintenance when there is a need of additional personnel due to absences or in emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to understand the operation of a wide variety of computer and electrical controls.
• Skilled in aspects of HVACR repair.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials and staff, co-workers, and the general public.
• Willingness to attend skills workshops and/or seminars as needed.
• Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints and schematics.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal mechanical codes.
• Ability to make effective decisions.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair natural gas piping.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
• Serve as role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Must possess or be able to obtain a CFC license, universal preferred.
• HVACR technical degree, journeyman mechanical card or certificate from accredited HVACR institution preferred
• Must possess a least one (1) years of experience in HVACR service and installation.
• Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
