Science Instructor, Elementary School

Position: Science Instructor for Grades 1-5 Schedule: 7:30-4:00 Monday-Thursday, 7:30-2:00 Friday Job Summaryh3> The Science Instructor will assist students in understanding and applying scientific concepts and skills, cultivate an appreciation of science in everyday life, prepare students for success in middle and high school science programs, present students with experiences that promote and develop a growth mindset, and equip students to be problem solvers who can communicate and reason scientifically. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will hold a single-subject credential in either Life or Physical science and have expertise in a range of elementary and/or middle school science courses. Those courses include, but are not limited to, Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. Additional experience in STEM-related classes is desired and will be given strong consideration. Interest in robotics and/or coding is a plus. Responsibilities Teach assigned ES Science courses in grades 1-5 Develop and refine curriculum maps, lessons, and units of study that meet or exceed the requirements of NGSS Standards in each subject assigned to teach. Actively implements Responsive Classroom methodologies and strategies Attend and participate in all staff development, including staff orientation and professional development for both internal (led by the Head of Academics, Director Elementary School, other teachers/staff, and/or visiting experts) and external (visiting other schools, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in the school community, etc.) as arranged/calendared by the School. Participate and/or lead special school events, including but not limited to Open House, Back to School Night, grade‑level trips, and special student performances. Assess student progress and achievement using various means to collect and report on academic data. Use data to inform instruction to meet individual student academic and social needs with a goal of every student performing on grade level or above in all subject areas. Be visibly and actively present and on time for all other assigned duties on campus Maintain frequent communication and engagement with colleagues, students, families, and other school stakeholders. Participate as an active community member to provide stewardship of the school and adherence to its mission and guiding principles. Maintain high professionalism, including meeting deadlines and commitments to self, students, and the community. Collaborate with grade level and department teams and the student support team to design and implement curriculum and assess student growth in meaningful and rigorous ways. Attend and participate in all faculty meetings and curriculum development programs. Attendance at all other community/school events is encouraged.
