Protective Services Specialist 1/2/3 Craig or Juneau (PCN 063862)

Position Overview Protective Services Specialist (PSS) – Level 1, 2, or 3 – full‑time in Craig or Juneau, Alaska. The position is open to Alaska residents only and will be based in either the Craig Field Office or the Juneau Field Office. The Southeast Regional Field Offices include Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Sitka, and Craig. What You Will Be Doing As a PSS you will provide child protection services in the Family Services unit, the Investigations & Assessment unit, or as a Generalist covering both. Your duties include investigating reports of child abuse or neglect, preparing intervention plans, gathering information about family dynamics, developing plans to ensure child safety, assisting parents in addressing protective factors, placing children in foster care when necessary, providing in‑home or ongoing services, writing reports to the court, working closely with Tribal/Community partners, and making referrals to other service providers. Travel and Work Schedule Travel requirements vary by field office. In Craig, staff travel primarily to cover nearby communities and regional field office locations. In Juneau, staff typically work two weeks in the office (50%) and spend two weeks traveling (50%) each month. Travel may range from a day trip to a full week and may involve small aircraft or other transportation. Customer Service – work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations. Integrity/Honesty – uphold high ethical standards and maintain organizational integrity. Interpersonal Skills – build effective relationships, deal with difficult persons, and respect cultural diversity. Oral Communication – present information clearly, listen, and respond appropriately. Writing – use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicate succinctly and organized. Technical Credibility – apply principles, procedures, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
