Position Overview As a Registered Nurse supporting the Ambulatory Oncology team at the Banner Health Cancer Center Tucson, you will work with staff who strive to go above and beyond for patients. You will apply sound judgment, clinical expertise, and execute critical nursing interventions to all populations within the patient care setting. You will conduct patient assessments, develop and implement nursing care plans, and foster quality outcomes. This full‑time position is scheduled 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm (Clinic hours 0800‑1700, closed on recognized holidays and weekends). Core Functions Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures timely completion. Reviews diagnostics and lab data and reports abnormal results to physicians and other appropriate caregivers. Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data and patient, family and health team input. Initiates a plan of care and revises it as needed. Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and nursing plan, complying with policies and regulatory requirements. Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes. Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and follows policy. Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts to support the health care of the patient. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. Daily Responsibilities Patient communication, education and triage Coordination of patient‑physician visits, including inpatient treatments Addressing medication needs, interpreting lab values and pathology Knowledge of treatment regimens, nursing indications and adverse reaction management Building relationships with physicians and other key members of the oncology team Assisting pediatric and adult patients for radiation treatments under sedation Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim or compact RN licensure). BLS certification. Experience in the clinical area for which the RN is applying is desired. At least one year of experience as an RN in an acute care hospital setting. When required, ability to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license. Compliance with any state or federal clearance card requirements for behavioral health positions. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
