School Nurse FloatThis position works 35 hours per week and 187 days per year. Daily schedule is TBD. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. The internal closing date for this position is July 31, 2026.Position Summary: Provide leadership, clinical expertise, and program management for comprehensive school health services. Coordinate, manage, and monitor health services within the school for students, staff, and community. Uphold evidence-based practices and legal/regulatory compliance to facilitate the academic achievement of students by assisting in eliminating or mitigating health barriers to academic success.Essential Functions:Assess and evaluate the total health and developmental status of each student through nursing assessment and evaluative techniquesImplement and adhere to all district approved standing orders, protocols, and policies in the delivery of school health servicesEnsure compliance with state-mandated health screenings, immunization requirements, and communicable disease control measuresEstablish and maintain confidential health records within the electronic health records (EHR)Facilitate awareness of provisions of Missouri Child Abuse Law. Recognize signs and symptoms of abuse/neglectContinuously monitor immunization compliance of all studentsIdentify and recommend exclusion of students and staff in early state of communicable diseaseWork with school administration to address attendance issues related to health issuesInitiate, develop, implement, and evaluate individual health plan (IHP) for students to assist school personnel to meet special health care needs and monitor those special care proceduresWork collaboratively with teachers, staff, administrators, and families to identify and provide for areas of need related to health issuesAdminister medication in accordance with districtProvide training for staff to administer medications as needed (i.e., field trips)Maintain close communication with parents of students with ongoing health needs or issuesAct as liaison between school/family/medical providers as neededProvide teacher/staff in-services regarding student health issuesProvide health counseling on request to students, parents, and staffRefer students/families requiring intervention or treatment to outside agencies or resourcesParticipate on interdisciplinary school teams which address the identification of student needsAssist HPE teachers with Growth and Development/Personal Hygiene to 4th and 5th gradeServe as classroom resource consultant and resource teacher on health education topics as requested by the facultyFacilitate implementation of school emergency care systemAttend staff meetingsAttend Health Services Department meetingsOversee and delegate medication administration, and specific healthcare procedures to trained, unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) in accordance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act. Maintain documentation of all delegation trainingOrder and maintain health room supplies, within allotted budgetEssential Skills and Abilities:Ability to lift light to moderate weight (1-25 lbs.) by hand and assist with lifting heavy weights (25-60 lbs.)Ability to maintain documentation and files, as well as generate appropriate reportsAbility to utilize data to identify high risk areas, inform school health goalsAbility to walk, sit, stoop or crouch with strength to push, grasp, feel, talk, and hearDemonstrate proficiency in EHR and Google Suite and the use of technology for data collection and communicationExceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective health education, counseling, parent communication and liaison dutiesPerform in a stressful environment with serious medical issues/situationsStrong organization skillsBasic Requirements:Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN requiredMust possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State Board of Nursing, State of MissouriPrefer experience with skills that have application to school nursing (i.e. pediatrics, community health, psych or emergency department)Certification in CPR including AEDEquipment Used:Standard office equipmentWork Environment:While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reachPotential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases
