For more information, visit Primary Job Function: The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Special Education Coordinator (K–12) is responsible for working closely with the Director of Special Education to develop, implement, and sustain high-quality programs and services for students with disabilities across elementary and secondary levels. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that special education programming is implemented with fidelity, compliance, and a strong focus on student outcomes. This role provides districtwide leadership, technical assistance, and oversight to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate services and supports aligned to their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Minimum Qualifications: Valid Ohio Administrative License (e.g., Principal, Pupil Services, or Superintendent). Valid Ohio Teaching License in Special Education or Pupil Services license. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in special education. Must pass a criminal background check (BCI/FBI). Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) or more years of experience in special education administration. Experience providing district- or building-level leadership across multiple grade spans (K-12). Proven track record in conflict resolution and Facilitated IEP (FIEP) processes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Program Coordination Coordinate special education programming across K–12 schools. Service Delivery Oversight Ensure appropriate delivery of special education services in accordance with students' IEPs. Compliance Auditing Conduct IEP verifications to ensure compliance with processes, procedures, and delivery of specially designed instruction and related services. Staff Development Provide training, coaching, and technical assistance to staff including case managers, Intervention Specialists, general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and support professionals. Regulatory Compliance Ensure district compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to students with disabilities and those suspected of having a disability. Policy Implementation Assist in the development and implementation of district procedures and policies related to identification, evaluation, placement, and service delivery. Monitoring Support Support and participate in districtwide internal monitoring processes. Stakeholder Communication Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding special education processes, including referrals, evaluations, annual reviews, and re-evaluations. Relationship Building Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with families, staff, and community partners. Transportation Collaboration Collaborate with the transportation department to secure and maintain appropriate transportation services for students with disabilities. Talent Acquisition Partner with building principals and the Human Resources department to support hiring, staffing, and talent acquisition. Systems Support Assist in the development and implementation of district MTSS and PBIS frameworks, ensuring fidelity and compliance. Personnel Evaluation Evaluate staff as outlined in the negotiated agreement. Outplacement Coordination Collaborate with building teams, district leadership, and providers regarding outplaced students, related services, and community agencies. Behavioral Management Support the development of behavioral management systems, including mental health partnerships and supports. Provider Relations Build and manage relationships with out-of-district service providers and facilities. Strategic Planning Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of district special education initiatives. Best Practices Integrate research-based best practices into existing programs and new initiatives. Legal Knowledge Stay current on legal requirements governing special education and ensure their application across district programs. Scholarship Oversight Help process Autism Scholarship and Jon Peterson Scholarship applications districtwide, including use of the Autism Scholarship portal. Manifestation Determination Help conduct Manifestation Determination Reviews at the district level. Inventory Management Oversee and maintain inventory of special education equipment and materials. Budgetary Recommendations Make budgetary and staffing recommendations related to special education programs. Recruitment and Retention Support recruitment, selection, and retention of special education personnel. Records Maintenance Maintain confidentiality of student and staff records. Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Federal and state special education law, including IDEA, Section 504, and applicable Ohio Administrative Code. IEP development, implementation, and compliance monitoring processes. Special education programming across the K–12 continuum, including least restrictive environment (LRE) requirements. MTSS, PBIS, and multi-tiered systems of support frameworks. Scholarship programs including Autism Scholarship and Jon Peterson Scholarship. Skilled in: Providing coaching, training, and technical assistance to diverse school staff. Leading cross-functional collaboration among administrators, educators, families, and community partners. Data analysis and using outcomes to inform program decisions and improvements. Clear written and verbal communication with a broad range of stakeholders. Ability to: Manage complex, district-level systems and multiple priorities simultaneously. Build trust and maintain effective relationships with staff, families, and external agencies. Apply research-based practices and current legal requirements to program development. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and staff information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion. Working Conditions The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children. Driving Requirement This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
