Position Summary

The primary function of the ENT physician is to provide care to and management of patients with ear, nose and throat disorders, in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. He/she will work collaboratively with the physicians/surgeons, nurses, medical assistants (MAs), and other clinical and administrative staff to support the patient population within the ENT practice.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under general direction:


Clinical Practice:

  • Diagnose and manage diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck.
  • Triages clinical complaints from patients in order to determine the acuity of the situation and initiate a solution, such as offering office-based or hospital-based solutions, including recommendations to go to the Emergency Department as appropriate.
  • Perform a full range of ENT surgical procedures, such as tonsillectomies, sinus surgeries, ear tube placements, and head & neck surgeries.
  • Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests, including endoscopies, audiograms, imaging, and allergy evaluations.
  • Facilitates scheduling of clinical procedures specific to the patient population.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients of all ages.
  • Provide ongoing care and follow-up for chronic ENT conditions.
  • Determines the timing for when new referrals need to be seen and by which appropriate provider if needed.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, audiologists, allergists, speech pathologists, and other specialists.
  • Participate in call coverage as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Uphold best practices and stay current with developments in the field of otolaryngology.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Works collaboratively with co-workers and other health care professional members of the practice to ensure a high standard of patient care and efficient operations.
  • Works collaboratively with other MH clinical staff, such as nurse navigators and others as appropriate to coordinate patient care.
  • Assists other practice staff members with patient issues/questions.
  • Takes phone calls from outside providers, when appropriate.
Patient Education:
  • Provides education regarding patient conditions and treatments.
  • Identifies learning needs of patients and families and provides education to meet those needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical School and ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology residency program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Otolaryngology (ABO-HNS) or equivalent field
  • Valid and unrestricted CT state licensure with both DEA and DPH prescribing privileges
  • Skilled in traditional disciplines of patient assessment and management
  • Must obtain medical privileges at Middlesex Hospital in the Department of Medicine. Complies fully with MH Medical staff bylaws for maintenance of MH privileges.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fellowship training in subspecialties such as Pediatric ENT, Rhinology, Otology/Neurotology, or Head & Neck Surgery
  • Experience in outpatient practice, hospital-based care, or surgical center settings
