Position Description The Classified Systems Administrator, II will work as an integral part of the IS Classified Operations Team providing technical expertise in the support of RAND’s classified systems and services. This position operates and maintains various Windows Desktop technologies and may include Linux operating systems, VMware, and network storage. Duties and Responsibilities Support secret collateral and TS/SCI classified workstations and servers. Assist with software and hardware installations for networked and stand‑alone systems. Provide system performance analysis, monitoring, and reporting. Prepare for and participate in government assessments of classified systems. Complete a wide range of system service requests; ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction and availability. Implement multiple and simultaneous new technology initiatives and solutions. Collaborate with other Information Services groups and RAND departments on evaluating, customizing, adapting, implementing, and securing hardware and software systems. Adhere to ITIL best practices, including Problem Management and Service and Support standards. Implement technical controls, regulations, and processes required by organizational security practices and Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Prepare workstations for announced and unannounced audits from regulatory agencies; account for and report on thousands of auditable technical configurations and controls. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of resources and practices in the security community, current on changing requirements; a plus. Ability to adjust quickly, adapt to changing priorities, take initiative, and own the task. Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team with strong organizational skills. Basic level skills in supporting Windows Servers, SAN & NAS storage, ESX; a plus. Must achieve and maintain Security+ and other certifications within the first 6 months of employment. Familiar with CNSSI 1253. Knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP and Active Directory. Must be familiar with using and implementing STIG guidance. Proficient Linux experience required. Education Requirements High School Diploma or GED required. BA/BS preferred. Experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a professional mixed environment with a High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a professional mixed environment with a Bachelor’s degree. Security Clearance Must have active TS/SCI access with Poly preferred. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain security and technical certifications. Location This position is located in RAND’s Washington D.C. office (Arlington, VA) and requires presence of 5 days per week. Salary Range $75,700 - $112,400. RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to the specific role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, skills, expertise, and internal equity. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatical pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
