Agronomy Yard Worker

Agronomy Definition: Agronomy is a branch of agriculture that deals with field-crop production and soil management.

Work Schedule

Daytime Shift

• Hours of operation will range from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and are subject to change.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Brief Summary of Job

The Agronomy Yard Worker is responsible for assisting with daily agronomy operations, including filling anhydrous ammonia tanks, maintaining equipment and facilities, and supporting the overall cleanliness and safe operation of the facility. Actual responsibilities will vary depending on daily operational needs and the type of facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely fill anhydrous ammonia tanks in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
• Maintain the equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and professional condition.
• Maintain cleanliness of the plant and surrounding areas, which may include:
  • Sweeping.
  • Shoveling.
  • Mowing.
  • Pressure washing.
  • Other general cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Perform additional responsibilities based on daily operational needs and the type of facility.
• Uphold compliance with OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Maintain the proper care, maintenance, and professional appearance of equipment, rolling stock, and facilities.
• Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with employees and customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualities / Skills Needed

• Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
• Must be reliable and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
• Understanding of, and willingness to learn, agronomy operations and related procedures.
• Basic knowledge of mathematics and measurements.
• Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret oral and written instructions.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and identify appropriate solutions.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel independently and stay overnight when necessary.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
• Ability to be on-call as business conditions warrant.
• Travel: 5%–20% travel may be required at some facilities. Travel may include off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

This position requires considerable physical exertion and may involve demanding working conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50–70 pounds.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods as required.

Working Conditions

• Exposure to extreme weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and other outdoor conditions.
• Exposure to noisy working conditions.
• Working conditions may include exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
• Appropriate safety measures and procedures must be followed at all times.
