Affordable Housing Finance Attorney

Direct Counsel represents an AmLaw 50 firm seeking an experienced Affordable Housing Finance Attorney to join its growing Finance Practice Group.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance attorney with strong lender-side affordable housing and multifamily finance experience to work on sophisticated, nationwide transactions representing banks, financial institutions, and other leading lenders.

The Role

• Represent lenders in affordable housing and multifamily finance transactions nationwide.
• Handle tax-exempt and taxable financings, including construction, bridge, and permanent loans.
• Draft and negotiate mortgage loan documents, intercreditor agreements, and subordinate financing arrangements .
• Work on transactions involving HUD, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae programs.
• Navigate complex capital structures involving tax credits, subordinate financing, and intercreditor arrangements.
• Conduct real estate and entity due diligence.
• Manage deal workstreams from origination and closing through servicing, payoff, workouts, and enforcement.
• Work directly with sophisticated clients while taking ownership of transactions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of lender-side affordable housing finance experience .
• Experience with affordable housing and multifamily finance transactions.
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating mortgage loan and financing documents.
• Familiarity with tax-exempt and taxable bond transactions preferred.
• Strong real estate and entity due diligence experience.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage transactions independently while working collaboratively.
• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• California Bar admission preferred; Illinois or New York Bar may also be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

• $310,000–$390,000 annual salary , depending on experience and qualifications.
