The Georgia State University Police Department is seeking a Police Officer I to join the team in maintaining the department's excellence. The department provides law enforcement, security, and safety services to the university community and the surrounding areas. Georgia State boasts one of the largest university police forces in the state with 160 officers across all six Atlanta metro campuses.

The department is accredited and certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement (IACLEA), and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

This position performs specialized police work to protect life and property, prevent violations, enforce laws and regulations on university property, and apprehend violators within police jurisdiction. Duties include patrolling campus areas on foot or by motorized vehicle, issuing citations and warnings, directing traffic, maintaining watch over buildings and grounds, observing and investigating suspicious actions or persons, reporting and investigating accidents, vandalism, thefts, and fire, assisting in the location of lost or stolen property, giving directions and other information to the public, maintaining records of accidents and investigations, giving warnings and issuing tickets to the public, advising students, faculty, and staff on campus regulations, investigating traffic accidents, and assisting injured parties.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship, a minimum age of twenty, no felony convictions or adverse driving history, 20/20 vision or corrected 20/20 vision, willingness to undergo a polygraph test, physical exam, fingerprinting, and drug screening test, and the physical ability to perform essential job functions. A valid Georgia Driver's License is required at the time of employment. Obtain a Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification as a Law Enforcement Officer and successful completion of the Field Training Officer Program with GSUPD. Preferred hiring qualifications include considerable knowledge of standard police practices and procedures, knowledge of the GSU campus and its traffic patterns, knowledge of first aid, knowledge of fire prevention techniques, ability to conduct investigations and prepare reports, and effective oral and written communication skills.

The position is located on the Atlanta Campus with various shifts. The salary range is $47,500-$56,900 with pay grade 17, FLSA status non-exempt, and job type full time (benefits eligible).
