Highway Maintenance Coordinator

THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is excited to welcome an ambitious Highway Maintenance Coordinator to guide essential roadway maintenance across the county. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position assists with planning, coordinating, and reviewing maintenance activities within an assigned area, including paving, repairs, snow removal, and resource allocation. Your primary responsibilities will entail inspecting work quality, improving communication, and supporting crews in completing projects safely and efficiently. As a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, you will perform the following duties: Work Planning: Prepare plans and estimates for maintenance tasks such as paving, patching, widening, and snow removal. Resource Allocation: Recommend the use of equipment, materials, and staffing to meet program goals. Field Inspection: Check ongoing and finished work to ensure policy, quality, and plan compliance. Communication Support: Meet with employees, officials, union representatives, and property owners to explain operations and resolve concerns. Process Improvement: Support new methods, review complaints, and help improve production and quality. Safety Leadership: Promote safe practices, monitor conditions, and encourage accident prevention measures.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Full‑time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Dual shifts effective November through March. Telework: This position does not offer telework. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Three years as a Highway Foreman 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration), or Five years of technical experience in highway maintenance or highway construction, or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

This position requires possession of a valid PA non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

You must meet the PA residency requirement. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
