Volunteer Coach

Role Description The Volunteer Coach role is an on‑site position based in Chicago, IL. Volunteer Coaches meet regularly with community college scholars to provide encouragement, accountability, and guidance on academic, career, and life goals. Responsibilities include helping scholars set and track goals, discussing challenges and problem‑solving strategies, and connecting them to available program resources and opportunities. Coaches may support students in building professional skills, such as résumé development, interview preparation, and networking, and in strengthening time management and study habits. This role involves collaborating with staff and other volunteers to ensure scholars feel supported and engaged throughout the program; it is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Qualifications Have an Associate’s Degree or Higher Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with students, demonstrating strong interpersonal, listening, and mentoring skills. Clear, respectful verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to educational equity and enthusiasm for working with community college students from diverse communities. Ability to attend on‑site meetings and training sessions in Chicago, IL, as required by the program.
