Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse with specialized experience in Neurosurgery for a position in Madison, Wisconsin. The role involves providing high-acuity patient care within the Neurosurgery unit, performing a variety of complex procedures such as aneurysm clipping, cervical and lumbar fusion, craniotomies, and VP shunt insertions. Candidates must bring their active RN license on the first day and possess the required certifications and minimum experience to succeed in this fast-paced, high-level environment.

Job Details:

• Location: Madison, WI
• Specialty: Operating Room (Neurosurgery)
• Schedule: Evening shift, Mon-Fri, 3 days of 12-hour shifts (0940-2210), with weekend call rotation and potential holiday call responsibilities
• Required Qualifications: WI Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact RN license, BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), minimum of 2 years of acute care experience in Neurosurgery or equivalent, experience with high acuity cases, trauma Level II experience, previous charge nurse experience preferred, proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system
• Preferred Qualifications: Community hospital experience, trauma Level I experience, experience with neuro-specific procedures including aneurysm clipping, craniotomy, endovascular neuro, and posterior Fossa decompression
• Additional Information: The role involves handling complex neuro-surgical procedures, including craniotomies for tumor removal, sinus approach, and intraoperative MRI environments. The candidate must have experience with equipment such as sonopet, bone scalpel, bipolar, and kinematic microscopes (Mitaka, Leica, Kinevo, Pentero). Strict passing criteria are required for pre-employment telemetry and cardiac interpretation testing.
• Travel Experience: Not required
• Certifications: BLS, WI RN or compact RN license required
• Other Details: Involves working in a hybrid OR setting, handling surgical specimens, infection control, radiation and laser safety, and adhering to universal protocols. The candidate must meet the minimum of 2 years of recent acute care neuro-surgical experience.
