Summary

About the Position: This position will be located in Directorate of Medical Services, Naval Medical Center, San Diego CA.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Help

  • Work with highly complex cases in which individuals are severely impacted by moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Collect biopsychosocial information about patients through interview, case history, observation techniques, and other assessment methods.
  • Analyze information collected to identify symptoms and develop treatment plan.
  • Provide comprehensive social work services in the form of casework and case management by consulting on or developing discharge plans.
  • Provide individual, family, and group clinical counseling services using various evidenced based modalities as clinically indicated for adults and children.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis.
  • Provide emergency on-call crisis management services for behavioral health cases and all other social work needs as designated by the section or department needs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Clinical): Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial for patients needing behavioral health services, providing individual therapy when indicated and formulating behavioral health interventions and safe discharge plans for highly complex medicine patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service(GS-11)

Licensure : A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your license)

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
