Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to perform field and laboratory testing, inspections, and observations on active construction projects throughout the Austin area.

The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of construction materials testing experience, although related experience in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, or materials testing will also be considered. ACI Level I certification is preferred, and company support is available for obtaining certification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform field and laboratory testing, observations, and inspections of construction materials, including concrete, soil, and asphalt.
• Conduct inspections of reinforcing steel and foundation excavations.
• Follow applicable ASTM, ACI, TxDOT, and project-specific testing procedures.
• Collect and properly handle samples for laboratory testing and transport them to the laboratory.
• Communicate professionally with project managers, dispatch, contractors, clients, and other project personnel regarding site conditions, testing activities, and project status.
• Prepare accurate and complete daily field reports and submit documentation to the Project Manager.
• Properly operate, maintain, store, and transport testing equipment, including nuclear gauges and other field equipment.
• Maintain company vehicles and equipment in safe and operational condition.
• Follow all company and job-site safety procedures and properly use required PPE.
• Perform additional testing, inspection, and field support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year of Construction Materials Testing (CMT) experience preferred.
• Related experience in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, or materials testing will be considered.
• ACI certification preferred, or ability to obtain required certification within 180 days of hire.
• Ability and willingness to obtain additional required CMT certifications.
• Valid driver's license with a clean and insurable driving record.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and testing requirements.
• Basic mathematics and computer skills, including the ability to use tablets and Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.
• Ability to travel to construction sites throughout the Austin area.

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in Texas heat and variable weather conditions .
• Ability to perform physical fieldwork on active construction sites.
• Ability to regularly lift 50+ pounds .
• Willingness to work early mornings, overtime, weekends, and occasional out-of-town assignments.
• Ability to safely work around active construction operations and equipment.
• Must successfully pass required background, drug screening, physical examination, and motor vehicle record checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACI Level I certification.
• Experience with soil testing .
• Experience with concrete and asphalt testing.
• Familiarity with ASTM, ACI, and TxDOT testing standards.
• Previous experience working on active commercial, civil, or infrastructure construction sites.
