Position Overview

This position is accountable for the investigation, review, and processing of access, utility, and road closure permits which are required by non-Department of Transportation organizations, when working on and adjacent to, state right-of-way, and wide load investigations. 

Essential Functions

• Maintains harmonious relationships with applicants.
• Makes determination as to the acceptability of applications.
• Answers inquiries and instructs applicants as to proper permit procedures.
• Implements access and utility permit computer record system.
• Ensures subordinate personnel comply with all departmental safety rules, practices, and procedures.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong oral and/or written communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

• Valid driver’s license.
• Occasional districtwide travel with occasional overnight stays.
• Occasional overtime.
• Successful completion of a background screening.
