Senior Accountant [Accounting Supervisor] Job Title Senior Accountant [Accounting Supervisor] Department Corporate Accounting and Finance Reports To Controller FLSA Status Exempt Location Lenexa, Kansas Supervises Others Yes Position Type Full-Time | Hybrid POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Accountant (Accounting Supervisor) is responsible for supporting the integrity, accuracy, and timely reporting of the company's financial information within a multi-state manufacturing environment. This role performs advanced accounting functions, supports month-end and year-end close activities, oversees sales and use tax compliance processes, contributes to financial process improvement initiatives and supervises and develops staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting [40%] Perform and oversee general accounting activities, including account reconciliations, journal entries, treasury management, and financial reporting support in compliance with FASB and GAAP or other regulatory agencies Support monthly and year-end close processes while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards Review financial transactions and supporting documentation to maintain integrity of financial records and reporting Sales Tax, Compliance and Audit Support [25%] Coordinates and supports multi-state sales and use tax compliance activities, filings, and reporting requirements Support internal and external audit activities through preparation of reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation Research and resolve accounting, tax, and reporting discrepancies as needed Team Leadership and Operational Oversight [20%] Provide day-to-day guidance, workflow coordination, and operational support for accounting team members Support accountability, consistency, and timely completion of departmental responsibilities Assist leadership in identifying process improvement opportunities and supporting operational efficiency within the accounting function Systems and Process Improvement [10%] Support ERP system troubleshooting, accounting process improvements, and documentation updates; Collaborate cross-functionally to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational effectiveness Other Duties [5%] Perform additional accounting, reporting, and special project responsibilities as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position provides day-to-day oversight and workflow coordination for accounting associates. While this role may not have full managerial authority, it is expected to support accountability, training and development, collaboration, and operational continuity within the department. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Experience in lieu of education may be considered Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience Experience working with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel functionality Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles Preferred: Manufacturing accounting experience Multi-state tax experience Experience supporting external audits Technical Skills and Knowledge: General ledger accounting and reconciliations Month-end and year-end close processes Sales and use tax compliance ERP systems and financial reporting tools Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office applications Understanding of manufacturing accounting environments and operational cost flow Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Attention to detail and organizational accuracy Accountability and ownership mindset Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines Collaborative and professional approach across departments #J-18808-Ljbffr
