Outreach Specialist - Adult Education

Coast Community College District (CCCD) is seeking an Outreach Specialist – Adult Education to promote enrollment and retention of adult learners in district programs. Overview This full‑time, 12‑month position works primarily on‑campus and engages adult learners through outreach, data management, and program promotion. The role requires coordination of outreach events, liaison with community partners, and support of student services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct college outreach by scheduling, coordinating, and presenting information to individuals and groups; attend career fairs and other events to present information and distribute materials. Provide prospective students with information about admissions, enrollment, assessment, and matriculation procedures; verify enrollment status and resolve enrollment issues. Offer one‑on‑one support and follow‑up services to promote retention and completion. Serve as liaison for the District and individual colleges with local adult schools, continuation schools, workforce development boards and community organizations. Lead event planning and facilitation, including coordinating recruitment and outreach events with funding and resource development. Perform high‑level data entry and use complex software such as Banner, ARGOS, and SARS; maintain security access to records. Organize and maintain research and statistical data for program development and evaluation; report to funding and grantor agencies. Assist with budget development, researching costs, proposing events, and monitoring expenses. Create and publish bulletins, flyers, newsletters, certificates, and awards; maintain adult education websites and social media accounts. Train, assign, prioritize, and review work of temporary employees. Receive demographic and academic data; identify potential candidates for noncredit/adult education courses. Keep current with district and external support services; attend professional development related to adult education. Perform other related duties as assigned that support the position’s objectives. Abide by all district policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics. Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Working knowledge of grant or state funded programs for adults and disadvantaged students. Understanding of higher education certificate and degree requirements for disadvantaged students. Awareness of services that benefit adult education students. Knowledge of social and cultural programs that enhance student retention. Knowledge of funding sources and requirements, and how to secure services from agencies. Human relations skills to convey technical concepts, exercise patience, and make presentations. Strong language and writing skills to prepare reports and correspondence. Proficiency with office productivity software (databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics). Math skills sufficient to maintain financial and statistical records. Ability to perform essential responsibilities and functions of the position. Ability to implement programs and services that enhance adult education recruitment, admission, retention, and success. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to a diverse population. Ability to determine student eligibility for special‑funded programs by interpreting rules and regulations. Capable of working at all college and district locations and off‑campus settings. General physical demands and working conditions are on file with HR; essential functions may vary. Education and Experience Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, communications, social services, or education, plus three years of experience working with adult learners or student populations, and experience conducting outreach activities in an educational setting. An Associate’s degree and four‑to‑six years of experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience, is acceptable. Licenses and Certifications A valid driver’s license is required.
