Bus Driver

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. He/she must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations, and rules of conduct.

Essential functions include advising students and other passengers of appropriate behavior, assessing incidents, assisting students during normal transport and emergency situations, attending in-service trainings, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, preparing and submitting reports, reporting observations and incidents, ensuring the bus always has sufficient fuel, operating the bus in compliance with road and safety regulations, following procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on the bus, keeping the bus clean, preparing passengers for emergency situations, demonstrating responsible leadership, and dealing with residents, members of the public, students, and employees in a courteous and respectful manner.

Educational/training requirements include possessing a valid license to drive a school bus, which will include a Commercial Driver's License (Class A or Class B with P and S endorsements), possessing an Oklahoma School Bus Certificate, which includes 25 hours of training in a state approved course, and being at least 21 years of age.

Working conditions include possessing manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus, being able to work a flexible schedule, being able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions, being able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, and submitting to initial drug and alcohol test, as well as continual random drug and alcohol tests.

Terms of employment include a 173-day work calendar and a 1.328 ratio - Yukon Public Schools Pay Information.

Status: Non-Exempt Support.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy of evaluation for classified personnel.
