Job Title: SCADA Systems Engineer
Job Description
This contract SCADA Systems Engineer role supports critical manufacturing visibility and data infrastructure projects in a high-volume megafactory environment. You will own SCADA system development from concept through deployment, designing, building, and integrating solutions using Ignition and Siemens PLCs while collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams. The position focuses on enabling real-time production monitoring, OEE tracking, and broader digital transformation initiatives, without any expectation of 24/7 operational support or on-call responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy SCADA systems using Siemens TIA Portal and the Ignition SCADA platform.
Implement OPC UA communication between PLCs and Ignition to enable reliable, real-time data exchange.
Develop and maintain scripts within Ignition for data processing, alarm logic, and custom functionality.
Configure and test tag databases, alarm systems, trends, and reporting dashboards to support production monitoring and analysis.
Integrate SCADA systems with existing Siemens S7-1200/1500 PLCs and Beckhoff PLCs (TwinCAT) via OPC UA.
Document SCADA architectures, configurations, and system handoff materials to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.
Support commissioning and validation of SCADA systems on production lines, ensuring stable and secure operation.
Provide focused technical support during planned integration windows, including testing and issue resolution.
Work within defined project scopes, contributing to progress reporting and milestone delivery in a project-focused contractor capacity, with no on-call or 24/7 operational escalation responsibilities.
Essential Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial automation with a focus on SCADA system design and deployment in manufacturing environments.
Strong experience in electrical engineering or closely related disciplines applied to industrial automation and SCADA.
Proven experience integrating SCADA systems with Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 PLCs.
Mastery of the Ignition SCADA platform, including OPC UA, scripting, alarm management, and dashboard development.
Expertise in OPC UA protocol implementation for reliable communication between SCADA systems and PLCs.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and SQL for data processing and logic automation within SCADA environments.
Experience designing scalable, secure SCADA architectures with data historian integration and network segmentation.
Demonstrated project management capability, including managing scope, communicating progress, and delivering against defined milestones.
Comfort working flexible hours as needed to support project milestones and scheduled integration activities, including occasional nights and weekends when project-dependent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with Beckhoff PLCs and TwinCAT environments is a strong plus.
Hands-on experience with Siemens TIA Portal for PLC and SCADA configuration.
Familiarity with data historians and industrial networking best practices for secure, segmented architectures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams in a project-driven environment.
Strong documentation skills for system architectures, configurations, and handover materials.
Work Environment
The role operates in a fast-paced megafactory setting focused on high-volume manufacturing and continuous improvement. You will work with modern industrial automation technologies, including Siemens TIA Portal, Ignition SCADA, Siemens S7-1200/1500 PLCs, and Beckhoff PLCs with TwinCAT. The position is project-focused rather than operations support, with no on-call or 24/7 escalation expectations. Work hours may vary based on project needs, and you may occasionally work nights or weekends to support scheduled integration and commissioning windows. The environment emphasizes collaboration, digital transformation, and real-time production visibility, offering the opportunity to make a measurable impact on manufacturing performance.
