Cafeteria Worker

TITLE: CAFETERIA WORKER 5.5.5 QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to follow instructions for food service related tasks. 2. Capacity to assume various job related duties requiring moderate physical strength. 3. Ability to pass any required or mandated trainings provided by the employer such as OSHA requirements needed to perform any job related responsibility. 4. Certification of good health signed by a medical professional in order to be appointed. Any further medical review as appropriate through a school appointed physician. 5. A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all staff members, students, and with the larger educational community. 6. Such job-related alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Director of Food Services, Team Leader and/or Kitchen Manager as appropriate JOB GOAL: To provide students with healthy lunch options in alignment with the national school lunch program nutritional guidelines. This will take place in a safe, clean, and Board of Health approved environment. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): 1. Assumes responsibility for food service operations as they may apply and/or are assigned to particular schools. 2. Serves food provided in an appealing manner. 3. Assures the cleaning of all serving areas, dishes, and other paraphernalia related to the production, serving or storing of all foods used. 4. Participates in the limited assembly of foods, such as mixing salads, and/or assembling sandwiches. 5. Performs cashier tasks and counts money daily as collected. 6. Assists Cooks or Bakers in the preparation of foods. 7. Helps and assists other cafeteria workers with joint tasks when other assigned tasks are completed. 8. Communicates effectively with the appropriate stakeholders. 9. Performs such other job related tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be designated or assigned by the Director of Food Services, Kitchen Manager, and/or Team Leader from time to time. 10. Ability to work with the following physical and environmental demands described below, which are required to perform the essential functions of the job. a. Physical: Requires periods of physical activity requiring the ability to stand for long periods, walking, climbing, bending, and crawling. The ability to lift, carry and position objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. If an object is over thirty (30) pounds, team lifting procedures will be in place. The employee must be able to communicate both through speech and hearing. The employee must have the ability to use hands and arms in order to safely operate equipment and perform the required tasks. The employee must have good vision either normally or corrected. b. Environmental: Interior work where the employee may be exposed to loud noise, extremes of heat and cold, and the use of various chemicals, some of which may be hazardous and require special handling. The employee may be required to utilize a ladder on occasion as well as work in confined spaces. Job-related appropriate training will be provided by the employer.
