About Thompson Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based/evidence‑informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0‑18) and their families, both virtually and in person. Position Overview Residential Youth Care Specialist – full‑time Responsibilities Provide care, supervision, structure, and therapeutic support to youth 10‑17 years old, building a therapeutic relationship. Assist in the treatment process and complete tasks assigned by the Supervisor. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team committed to the youth’s success. Schedule 1st Shift: 7 am – 7 pm or 2nd Shift: 7 pm – 7 am Week 1: Monday, Thursday, Friday Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday Mandatory attendance at a 4‑day, 9 am – 5 pm Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training program prior to client engagement. All residential staff must pass TCI training and demonstrate proper therapeutic techniques and holds. High school diploma/GED with two years of relevant youth‑work experience considered in lieu of a BA/BS degree. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. All candidates must pass a drug screening test and an extensive background check. Physical Requirements The job requires walking, standing, bending, running, climbing stairs, lifting individuals, and rapid extrication of youths during emergencies.
