Assistant Director Second Class Power Plant Engineer

Position Overview The Assistant Director Second Class Power Plant Engineer operates, maintains, and repairs high‑pressure boilers, generators, pumps, and associated equipment within a power plant facility. The role ensures safe, efficient, and continuous power production while managing emergencies and maintenance schedules. Key Responsibilities Inspect, monitor, and maintain machinery and equipment such as boilers, turbines, steam generators, pumps, heat control panels, safety valves, gauges, high/low water converters, steam reducing stations, and fire protection systems. Operate machinery and equipment (chillers, boilers, generators, pumps, valves) to provide reliable power. Repair, overhaul, and maintain equipment by replacing components, cleaning filters, lubricating parts, and performing minor electrical or plumbing repairs to prevent breakdowns. Clean and maintain work areas and plant machinery to ensure safety and efficiency. Respond to emergencies and breakdowns by evaluating problems, determining repairs, and taking corrective action, including shutting down equipment, transferring from automatic to manual operation, and operating the plant by total steam when other systems fail. Qualifications Knowledge of industrial heating system operation principles and types. Knowledge of pneumatic control system principles and application to heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Knowledge of calibration and adjustment techniques for pneumatic control systems. Fundamental electrical practice knowledge. Proficiency in precision measuring equipment such as manometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and tachometers used in a power plant. Possession of a Second Class or higher Stationary Engineer’s license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. Working Conditions Work is conducted under exposure to hazards such as gases, high‑pressure boilers, steam lines, caustic chemicals, high voltage, intense heat, excessive noise, heavy lifting, and shift work including weekends, holidays, nights, and on‑call standby status.
